F = (C * 9/5) + 32

• F represents the output temperature you need in the Fahrenheit scale.
• C represents the input temperature measured in the Celsius scale.
• 9/5 and 32 are universal constants used for the temperature conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

Suppose you have the data above where column A represents all the temperature values measured in Celsius. In column B, you want to convert those into temperature values in Fahrenheit.

=(A2*9/5)+32

To achieve the results, in cell B2, type the above formula which is the Google Sheet equivalent to the standard algebraic Celsius to Fahrenheit formula.

Drag the formula down the rows to get the desired Fahrenheit temperature results across cells B2:B6.

Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius with a Basic Formula

For a reverse situation where you want to convert the Fahrenheit temperature values into Celsius, you can solve the previous formula for C and obtain the following formula.

• start_unit a unit in which the values are stored in.

Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit with the CONVERT Function

= CONVERT ( A2, "C", "F" )

To convert the data from Celsius to Fahrenheit, input the above formula in cell B2 and drag it down the rows.

The start_unit "C" represents the Celsius scale of temperature measurement and assumes that the value stored in cell A2 is in Celsius.

The end_unit parameter has the value "F" which informs the system that the conversion should be into Fahrenheit.

Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius with the CONVERT Function

Shortcut way to Convert Temperature to Approximate Values

The way I am about to tell is not going to give you an adequate temperature conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit when precision is not required.

However, it is quick to use and gives good approximate values that are close enough for some uses.

Shortcut Conversion from Celsius to Fahrenheit

Though most of the time you need exact values, sometimes the approximate values will do the job as well for you.

In such cases, if you do not remember the standard conversion formula or the CONVERT function, this tip might come in handy.

To convert the Celsius temperature to its approximate Fahrenheit equivalent, multiply your Celsius temperature by 2 and add 30.

(20 * 2) + 30 = 70°F

For Example, if you want to convert the 20°C to the approximate Fahrenheit, the above will be a good approximation.

Shortcut Conversion From Fahrenheit to Celsius

On the other hand, if you subtract 30 from the given Fahrenheit temperature and divide it by 2, you will get the approximate temperature in Celsius.

(70 - 30)/2 = 20oC

For example, converting 70°F to Celsius will return the temperature value as 20°C.

This method is not perfect, but if the approximate temperature conversion is good enough then it will give you a quick and easy way you can calculate the conversion in your head.
